Ludgvan Parish

Ludgvan is a rural parish situated in the far south-west of England.  Close to Penzance and overlooking Mount’s Bay it is a mere 10 miles (16 km) from Land’s End as the crow flies.  It is a linear parish, several miles long and straddles the A30 trunk road within almost its entire length.

Favoured by an all-year-round relatively mild climate the local economy is predominantly mixed agricultural in nature, along with businesses, including a busy industrial estate, resulting in a good economic mix in the parish.

At the heart of the parish, in Lower Quarter, we have a very successful local primary school; Ludgvan School is a member of Leading Edge Academies Partnership and shares its site with the Oasis Childcare Centre.

At 4,541 acres (1,838 hectares) Ludgvan is one of the largest parishes by area in Cornwall and includes the settlements of Ludgvan itself, Long Rock, Crowlas, Cockwells, Whitecross and Canon’s Town.

The work of the parish council includes:

– maintain two cemeteries (the parish council is the burial authority for Ludgvan Parish)
– maintain two allotment sites (60 plots in total)
– maintain two amenity sites
– maintain a garden plot and cut grass generally around the parish
– clean and maintain all bus shelters within the parish
– maintain footpaths and bridleways on behalf of the Highways Authority
– as a statutory consultee, comment on all planning applications within the parish
– contribute to (and comment on) local and national discussions, new legislation etc.
– support local ‘good causes’
